Greece Digital Nomad Visa

Greece's DNV launched in late 2021 and is among the more relaxed EU options on income thresholds. Combine with the 50% tax break for new tax residents and it's a strong long-term EU launchpad.

Status
Open to applicants

Best for

  • EU-curious remote workers wanting a Mediterranean base
  • Freelancers with multi-client income
  • Couples and families (dependant inclusion is straightforward)

Eligibility

  • Remote employment or freelance contracts with non-Greek companies
  • Minimum monthly income of €3,500 (plus 20% for spouse, 15% per child)
  • Clean criminal record
  • Private health insurance

Application steps

  1. Apply at the Greek consulate in your home country
  2. Receive an entry visa, then move within 12 months
  3. Apply for a 2-year residence permit on arrival
  4. Renew before expiry; permanent residency available after 7 continuous years

Tax considerations

New tax residents may qualify for a 50% income-tax reduction for 7 years. Crossing the 183-day threshold triggers Greek residency on worldwide income, so pair the relocation with tax planning.

This is general information and not tax advice. Confirm with a tax advisor licensed in your home country and Greece before triggering residency.

Considering EOR instead?

Need EOR in Greece?

Greek law mandates 14 salary payments (Christmas, Easter, summer) and severance even with notice. Terminating with notice halves the payout but doesn't eliminate it. Use EOR when tenure crosses 2 to 5 years (notice jumps to 2 or 3 months) or when you need a clean exit without litigation risk.

HQ Simple services Greece EOR through our vetted partner network. Direct EOR sits with the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia.

EOR vs DNV?
Not sure which fits this hire?

A 20-minute call usually settles it: EOR if the worker is a local resident, DNV if they keep their home employer. We'll tell you which is cleaner.
